Buy and Hold

There’s nothing fancy about the way I select the coins to buy and hold. I look at the top 10 cryptocurrencies and depending on the size of my investment, select 4 to 6.

Bitcoin (the most obvious)
Ethereum
Litecoin
Dash
Ripple

Some high-level Analysis

Bitcoin (BTC) – The first crypto currency with the largest market cap. This one seems to set the pace for the rest and is growing at an incredible pace. Watch Galaxy Investgment CEO, Mike Novogratz, talk about Bitcoin and where he believes this is headed. Mind blowing. Click Here to watch Video

Ethereum (ETH) – This currency and the underlying blockchain technology was designed for executing smart contracts. This facilitates the execution of a contract between two untrusted agents. Bottom line, some large companies are looking at the Ethereum technology and see how best it will help them run their business. Example of some apps currently being developed for Ethereum include Weifund (crowdfunding), Uport (personal identity and control of personal information), etc.

Litecoin (LTC) – This coin was designed to complement Bitcoin and is the world’s first alternative cryptocurrency. It competes with Bitcoin and their claim to fame is that the cost of payments to anyone in the world is near-zero and is instant.

Dash (DASH) – The creators of Dash claim that it the most user friendly and most scalable (can grow) in the world. They claim it solves problems that Bitcoin doesn’t and that is privacy and anonymity.

Ripple (XRP) – This coin, used and adopted by major banking institutions including Santander, UBS, American banker and UniCredit, is used for payment networks and settlement infrastructure technology.
